Description
The loggerhead shrike (Lanius ludovicianus) is a passerine bird. It is the only member of the shrike family endemic to North America. Its food is large insects, small birds and lizards. Known in many parts as the "butcher bird," it impales its prey on thorns or barbed wire before eating it, because it does not have the talons of the larger birds of prey.
This digital painting is based on an original photograph taken by Jayne Wilson in her Certified Wildlife Habitat back garden.

So beautiful! Fascinating description. You wouldn't suspect how aggressive this little guy is, looking at him here he looks so sweet.
